About the Author

JUSTIN G. LONGENECKER, BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

Justin G. Longenecker’s authorship of Small Business Management: An Entrepreneurial Emphasis began with the first edition of this book and continues with an active, extensive involvement in the preparation of the present edition. He has authored a number of books and numerous articles in such journals as Journal of Small Business Management, Academy of Management Review, Business Horizons, and Journal of Business Ethics. Active in a number of professional organizations, he has served as president of the International Council for Small Business.
Dr. Longenecker grew up in a family business and attended Central Christian College of Kansas for two years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Seattle Pacific University, his M.B.A. from Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

CARLOS W. MOORE, BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

Carlos W. Moore is the Edwin W. Streetman Professor of Marketing at Baylor University, where he has been an instructor for more than 25 years. He has been honoured as a Distinguished Professor by the Hankamer School of Business, where he teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses. Dr. Moore has authored articles in such journals as Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Organizational Dynamics, Accounting Horizons, and Journal of Accountancy. His authorship of this textbook began with its sixth U.S. edition.
Dr. Moore received an Associate Arts degree from Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas, where he was later named Ex-Student of the Year. He earned a B.B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin, an M.B.A. from Baylor University, and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
Besides his academic experience, Dr. Moore has business experience as co-owner of a small ranch and as a partner in a small business consulting firm.

J. WILLIAM PETTY, BAYLOR UNIVERSITY

J. William Petty is professor of finance and the W.W. Caruth Chairholder in Entrepreneurship at Baylor University. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. from Abilene Christian University. He has taught at Virginia Tech University and Texas Tech University and has served as the dean of the business school at Abilene Christian University. His research interests include corporate restructuring, acquisitions of privately held companies, shareholder value–based management, the financing of small and entrepreneurial firms, and lender–borrower relationships. He has served as co-editor for the Journal of Financial Research and editor of the Journal of Entrepreneurial and Small Business Finance. He has published articles in a number of finance journals and is the co-author of two leading corporate finance textbooks—Basic Financial Management and Foundations of Finance. Dr. Petty has worked as a consultant for oil and gas firms and consumer product companies. He also served as a subject matter expert on a best-practices study by the American Productivity and Quality Center on the topic of shareholder value–based management. He recently served on a research team for the Australian Department of Industry to study the feasibility of establishing a public equity market for small- and medium-size enterprises in Australia.

LEO B. DONLEVY, HASKAYNE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS, UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY

Mr. Donlevy is a Senior Instructor in Entrepreneurship and has particular responsibility for the field experience component of the M.B.A. program. He is also the chair of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Area of the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Mr. Donlevy attained an M.B.A. degree in 1995 following a career in the commercial printing industry as an owner and manager. He has been involved with several other ventures during his career. He has served on several local and national trade and non-profit boards of directors, including a three-year term as president of the Printing & Graphics Association of Alberta. He is currently the president of the Calgary & District Soccer Referees’ Association.
Mr. Donlevy’s other teaching responsibilities include co-coaching the team of M.B.A.s who compete every January at the Concordia International M.B.A. Case Competition, where University of Calgary teams have performed consistently well over the years. Mr. Donlevy holds a Private Pilot licence and a Level II Alberta Soccer Referee certification and counts reading, golf, and wine making among his hobbies. He is a native Calgarian, married, and father of four.

VICTORIA A.C. CALVERT, MOUNT ROYAL COLLEGE

Victoria Calvert is a tenured instructor at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal College. She teaches and coordinates the New Venture Feasibility and the Consulting Practicum courses offered in the Innovative Bachelor of Applied Business and Entrepreneurship Program. The degree has received national recognition for its small business focus both through the academic curriculum and the Directed Field Studies during which students launch their own ventures with the guidance of faculty mentors.
Miss Calvert earned a B.Comm. from Queen’s University and an M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario. She has received an Excellence in Teaching Award (1995), and maintains a consulting practice specializing in feasibility and revitalization.
